Description

The 2026 Colloquium will be hosted by the University of Otago, starting with an informal welcome on the evening of the 30th November, with lectures and talks running from Tuesday morning to early Thursday afternoon.

The annual Colloquium brings together the mathematical community of New Zealand.

Time will be dedicated to the discussion of all aspects of mathematics and mathematics education. Talks will be given by internationally recognized leaders in the field and also by emerging researchers and postgraduate students.

The colloquium will be held in the St David lecture complex, corner of Cumberland and St David St in the Dunedin North campus of the University of Otago.

Welcome function

All conference participants are warmly invited to a welcome function at the Otago University Staff club, starting 5:30pm on Monday, 30th November

Dinner

The conference dinner will be held at Tuhura, the Otago Museum, 419 Great King St, starting 6:30pm on Wednesday, 2nd December.

Registration and Abstract Submission

The early-bird registration fees are $500 for NZMS members, $550 for non-members of the NZMS, and $275 for students. Early-bird registration ends on 1 November; the standard registration fees will be $75 more than the early-bird registration fees. For bulk registrations, please contact the Colloquium organisers.

Secondary-school teachers are also invited to register to attend the education session, which is tentatively scheduled for the morning of Thursday 3 December.

Financial Support for Students

NZMS is offering student support for students giving a presentation at the conference, and do not have institutional funding nor funding through their supervisor’s grants to cover their expenses. We expect that the value of the award will be 600NZD, to cover the registration fee and accommodation. To apply for this funding, send the details of your enrolment (e.g. 2nd year PhD in Mathematics at VUW), and a letter of support from your supervisor to secretary@nzmathsoc.org.nz before October 15. You will be contacted shortly after with the details of any awarded funding.

Prizes for Students and Early Career Researchers

The NZMS administers the Aitken Prize for best student presentation and the John Butcher Poster Prize for best poster by a student or early career researcher. See here for details.
