The Society has set up an accreditation scheme which recognises Fellows of the NZMS who may use the abbreviation FNZMS. A Member may apply to become a Fellow of the NZMS.

Applications are considered by the Fellowship Committee, set up by the NZMS Council. In its determinations, the Fellowship Committee shall discount interruptions to employment such as temporary unemployment and parental leave.

Criteria for Fellowship (effective 3 December 2018)

  1. Shall be a Member of the NZMS.
  2. Shall have satisfied criteria (2.1 or 2.2 or 2.3 or 2.4) and 2.5:
    2.1. Have made a substantial and sustained contribution to the mathematical sciences;

    2.2. Have made a substantial and sustained contribution to the profession of mathematical scientist; 
    2.3. Have made a substantial and sustained contribution to the teaching and learning of the mathematical sciences; 
    2.4. Have made a substantial and sustained contribution to the application of mathematical sciences; 
    2.5. Have made a substantial and sustained contribution to the NZ mathematics community.
