Application for membership of the NZMS
The New Zealand Mathematical Society (Inc.) is the representative body of professional mathematicians in New Zealand, and was founded in 1974. Its aims include promotion of research and education in the mathematical sciences, the development, application and dissemination of mathematical knowledge within New Zealand, and effective cooperation and collaboration between mathematicians and their colleagues in New Zealand and in other countries.
Membership classes:
(15% GST is included in all fees.)
Note: As the NZMS is changing its balance date to 30 June in 2025, there are membership fees for Ordinary Members of $45 for the first six months of 2025 and then $90 for the 12 months ending 30 June 2026. To reduce administration overheads, there is a special Ordinary membership fee of $120 for the 18 months ending 30 June 2026.

Ordinary For new members, the first year of membership to 30 June 2026 is free. Otherwise it is $45 (first six months of 2025) or $120 (1 Jan 2025 to 30 June 2026)

Reciprocal $22.50 (first six months of 2025) or $60 (1 Jan 2025 to 30 June 2026)
For overseas residents who are fully paid-up members of societies with which the NZMS maintains a reciprocity agreement (the American Mathematical Society, the Australian Mathematical Society, the Canadian Mathematical Society, the Edinburgh Mathematical Society, the Irish Mathematical Society, the London Mathematical Society, and the Mathematical Society of Japan).

Life $240 (until 30 June 2025)
This class of membership is available to retired persons on payment of a sum equal to three times the current annual membership fee.
When paying their membership fees, members can also:
- elect to make a donation to the NZMS Endowment Fund for Student Support
- pay their ANZIAM NZ Branch annual membership fee of $16.
After submitting the online membership application form, your details will be sent to the Membership Secretary who will then contact you by email to confirm your membership. The Treasurer and the Secretary will also receive your details with the Treasurer issuing you an invoice if there are any fees to be paid.

When applying for membership, we collect personal information from you, including information about your:
- name
- contact details
- membership of another mathematical society if applying to be a reciprocal member
We collect your personal information in order to:
- communicate with you
- maintain the Register of Members as required by the NZ Mathematical Society Constitution
If you do not provide this information, we will be unable to process your membership application.
